Shots fired after Infant Mystics parade in downtown Mobile

MOBILE, Alabama -- Mobile police have detained "several" people after an officer heard gunshots shortly after the Infant Mystics parade ended in downtown Mobile tonight.

Several people were seen running away from a vacant lot on a block bordered by Conti, Dauphin and Broad streets around 8:20 p.m., according to Cpl. Christopher Levy, public information officer for the Mobile Police Department.

An officer was heading to the area after he or she heard shots fired, Levy said.

A gun was found on the ground and multiple people have been detained as police investigate.

No one was injured in the shooting and it's too early in the investigation to determine whether the shots were in celebration -- such as they often are during the Fourth of July -- or if they were meant for a specific target.

As of 9 p.m., police have not made any arrests or found any additional firearms.
