Celebrating entrepreneurialism at Warwickshire College | AoC West ...

There?s a packed schedule of enterprising activities for students and staff at Warwickshire College next week as the college takes part in a number of national and global initiatives.

Next week the college will be taking part in Colleges Week, Global Entrepreneurship Week and our very own College Entrepreneurial Week.? And to round all the activities off, some of our very best students will be demonstrating their talents at the Skills Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Colleges Week (12 to 18 November) aims to make young people aware of the wide range of options available to them once they have finished their GCSEs.? This might be apprenticeships, vocational qualifications or academic studies.? College tutors will be going out to schools across the area talking to pupils about enterprise and entrepreneurship.

Warwickshire College is not only supporting Global Entrepreneurship Week but hosting our very own College Entrepreneurship Theme Week.

To kick start the week, entrepreneur, leading business brain and dragon in the BBC?s online Dragons? Den, Julie Meyer will be visiting the college?s Rugby centre.? The founder of Ariadne Capital will be making a keynote speech before receiving live business pitches from students at the college?s Peter Jones Enterprise Academy.? Ms Meyer will also be giving out free signed copies of her new book, Welcome to Entrepreneur Country.

Our students will also take part in a whole host of activities to develop their enterprise skills.? Motor maintenance students are offering winter car checks and valeting services, and international students will be demonstrating what it means to be an entrepreneur in different countries.? Arts students will be selling work they have created and also holding an arts bazaar.? Students at the Moreton Morrell centre will be taking over a plot of land to create their own market garden and in Pershore they will be hearing about setting up a chicken business from founder of the Warwickshire Chicken Coop, Jenna Jack.

There will also be the opportunity for students to get information from Young Britain on business start-up loans, take part in workshops on setting up businesses, have the chance to run the college shop or IT helpdesk for the day and take part in networking events to name but a few.

On Thursday our students will be going to The Skills Show at the NEC.? Organised by WorldSkills UK, the event will see our Hair and Beauty students performing a variety of treatments on a ?have a go? stand.? Cabinet maker, Ben Field from Stratford-upon-Avon, will be taking part in a competition to make a bedside table following a strict design brief.

Julie Taylor, Director for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Warwickshire College, said: ?We?re really excited about all the events we have taking place next week.? This is going to be a really busy time packed with lots of opportunities for our students not only to learn about enterprise and entrepreneurship from? those who have already ?made it? but also gain practical experience of some of the skills they will need to exceed in the modern workplace.

?As a college we are committed to making sure our students develop inventiveness, creativity and business confidence and these activities are just some of the ways in which we are helping our students to succeed.?
